The Quincy Le Norman Nutrition Center is located on the 7th floor of the Oklahoma Children’s Hospital OU Health and was made possible by a generous $1.5 million donation gift from the Le Norman family. Situated adjacent to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), this sophisticated nutrition center provides for babies receiving care in pediatric units who face a wide range of complex feeding protocols. Some needs are related to specific treatment, care, or rehab related to surgery, while others stem from unique nutritional deficits or sensitivities. Beyond direct care for these tiny and complex babies, the center now offers state-of-the-art technologies that further elevate best practices in nutritional science and make new research possible.

The project was originally planned as a renovation of the hospital’s existing small human milk lab that the hospital had outgrown. However, with the Le Norman family’s donation, the hospital could realize its goal of creating an expanded nutrition center to serve the entire hospital. MILES worked closely with hospital leadership and staff to identify prime space in the north NICU Village and developed a plan to reconfigure the core/support spaces for the NICU Village patient unit. This required redesigning the nurse station and selecting finishes in line with the hospital’s branding standards previously established by the MILES TEAM. New flooring, ceilings, and corridor lighting were all part of the overall finishes package. Another significant component of the new center is the human milk analyzer which determines how and to what extent milk must be fortified to meet specific nutritional needs.
